Driving Directions

GPS Coordinates: N 32°53'7.13"
W 116°34'28.98"; elev is 4,010 ft.

From Los Angeles: Take I-5 south to Hwy 805. Take Hwy 805 south to I-8 east. Go about 30 miles east to Hwy 79. Go north on Hwy 79 for 3 miles, making a left turn toward Julian (Lake Cuyamaca). Drive 3 more miles to the preserve.

From Riverside: Take I-15 to I-8. Go about 30 miles east to Hwy 79. Go north on Hwy 79 for 3 miles, making a left turn toward Julian (Lake Cuyamaca). Drive 3 more miles to the preserve. We don't recommend Hwy 79 from the north, because it's very steep, narrow and winding.

Driving Warning: The preserve entry from the south (I-8) is a very sharp right-hand turn on a limited-visibility curve. Longer rigs, rigs with tow vehicles, or limited turning radius rigs should proceed north past the preserve for 2.2 miles to the large parking lot on the right (east side of Hwy 79) to turn around and head straight into the preserve from the north.

Additional Local Information

Oakzanita is now operating on a “limited” status for the remainder of the fall through the winter. All buildings are open as well as all campsites. Our pools are closed, however, the spa remains open. Recreation and food events are hibernating for the winter. Oakzanita does experience cool to moderate temperatures during the daytime hours and freezing most nights. We are a great location for visiting most San Diego area attractions with Interstate 8 access directly into San Diego located just a few miles from the preserve. Downtown San Diego is a short 45-minute drive.

Oakzanita offers Wi-Fi access in the lodge and we now have “superb” Verizon cell service throughout the preserve. If your RV is over 40’ and you have not visited Oakzanita before, give us a call and we’ll explain any challenges you may have on our small preserve.

If you live in San Diego and are looking for a regular weekend getaway you might consider one of our annual sites! No setting up the RV each visit…just come on up and your site is ready! Limited sites are available on this program so call today if you would like more info call 619-445-2835!

We hope to see you soon!
