Theme Weekends 2008
May 2-4 - The Races At Chesapeake
Lots of races to cover today: the Kentucky Derby and NASCAR, not to mention the premier race event of the season: kids can make and customize their own car (materials provided) and race them to the finish line! In the evening, watch the movie on our big screen.
May 9 - 11 - Mums the Word
We think our moms are pretty special, so we devote the entire weekend to honoring the amazing women who have guided us throughout our lives. We have a masseuse and manicurist on-premises, so pamper the mother in your family by purchasing a day spa experience for her that she will truly appreciate. We’ll serve them light refreshments as they socialize and sink into a state of blissful relaxation! A special invitation to vendors of women’s products is extended to join our crafters on the Pavilion. Then on Saturday night, Mom and Dad can rekindle their love on the dance floor.
May 16-18 - Armed Forces Day/Gospel Music Association Performance
The sacrifices made by our military personnel and their families remind us that freedom is not free. Saying “Thank you” doesn’t begin to express our gratitude for their contributions and sacrifices. Nonetheless, we ask our armed forces personnel and/or their families to accept our thanks at a reception in their honor. Don’t miss the Country Gospel Music Association Performance on Friday, featuring music for the soul by an award-winning performer Jerry Jones!
May 23-24 - Memorial Day Celebration
This is a weekend for cookouts, dances and contest titles to challenge or defend. Old rivalries are revived for a new season at the Spring Horseshoe Tournament. In another annual contest, friendships and marriages are put to the test in the Blind-folded Golf Cart Race. Crafters sell their handmade items at the craft bazaar. And what would Memorial Day be without dances on Saturday and Sunday nights?
May 30-June 1 - Rappahannock River Cruise
Embarking from Tappahannock, this guided river cruise will stop at Ingleside Winery for lunch and a winery tour before heading back to port. This is a perfect time to start stocking up your wine cellar.
June 6-8 - Fishing 101
Don’t know anything about fishing? No problem. Our experts will teach you and your children everything you need to know: bait, hooks, fishing rods, fish, casting. What is more appropriate than to have the Coast Guard Auxiliary to prepare us for boat safety class? The rest who just want to sit around your campsite, bring your junk …uuhh we mean, fine pre-owned collectibles, and sell them right from your campsite. Dance at Dark to follow.
June 13-15 - Who’s Your Daddy?
Dads are pretty nifty, so for a few days anyway, let’s treat them nice. For our part, we’ll serve up free hotdogs at the horseshoe pits during a friendly game of shoes. Kids, don’t forget to give dear old dad a gift. You can make one at Arts and Crafts, or buy one from a crafter at the Craft Bazaar. Ladies, we know this isn’t your day to demonstrate your love and appreciation, but doing so never hurts. How about treating your hubby to a juicy steak dinner Saturday night? Maybe you’ll get him out on the dance floor at the DJ Dance, treating us all to a performance of the Funky Chicken.

June 20-22 - Summer Solstice
Start summer with your family and friends at our pool party, baseball games, and more games throughout the day. Dance at Dark.
June 27 - 28 - Pirates of the Piankatank
Ahoy, Matey! Jump on board and brandish your sword for this swash-buckling adventure! Kids, you’ll find all kinds of pirate booty at the Trading Post to help you dress the part. Watch the 3rd “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie at the Golf Cart Drive-In Movie Theater. Investigate the murder of a prominent citizen & present your case in the High Seas Court before an audience of your fellow lads and lasses. Last but not least, calling all pirates and wenches to the DJ Dance! Aaaargh! Funky chicken dancers will be forced to walk the plank!
July 4-6 - Independence Day Weekend Celebration
Laze around the pool at our pool party, while sipping your ice tea and soda. Check out the craft bazaar and decorate your golf cart for our annual golf cart parade. Big prize money is at stake, so make it good! Come kick your heels at the Dance at Dark.
July 11-13 - Flower Power Show
A trip down memory lane for baby boomers. Bring your hippie beads and tie-dye t-shirts. Protest receding hairlines. Do you tap dance? Play the piano or spoons? Or know every song from “Sound of Music”? At the “You’ve Got Talent” show, share that hidden talent your relatives coax out of you at family gatherings. (After all, we are family.) Saturday night, enjoy the dance with DJ.

July 18-20 - Gospel Jamboree
In partnership with the Country Gospel Music Association, we feature multiple performances by some very talented country gospel music groups. Bring your lawn chairs to the Pavilion, where throughout the day there will be music for the soul!
July 14 - 18 - Vacation Bible School
The kids or grandkids won’t have to miss this summertime favorite after all. Very popular among the younger set, this weeklong event is better than any vacation Bible school at home, because it’s combined with camping!
July 25-27 - Christmas in July/Ten Thousand Villages Sale
Escape the ordinary. Discover skillfully handmade items from 3rd world. Ten thousand Villages presents exquisite home décor, personal accessories and gift items handcrafted by artisans from around the world – for you, your home or RV, and those special to you.
At night dance at Dark.
August 1-3 - Hawaiian Luau
Bring your mom or dad to the Lodge and build your own Banana Split. In the afternoon we will have coconut bowling games at the pavilion. Dance at Dark.
August 8 - 10 - Wagon Wheelers Square Dancing
Mike and crew serve up a finger lickin’ BBQ chicken dinner, then we’ll push the tables back to kick up our heels square dancing with the Wagon Wheelers!
August 15-17 - Country Gospel and Bingo
(No correlation intended). Enjoy a toe-tapping performance by the Country Gospel Music Association. Then for our Bingo-maniacs out there, we’ll play Bingo all day Saturday: Breakfast Bingo, White Elephant Bingo, Candy Bar Bingo and more!
August 18 - 23 Missoula Children's Theatre Camp for children entering 1st through 12th grades. Show: Hansel and Gretel. There are roles especially suited for all ages, skill and experience levels. This is a HUGE production, with a cast of up to 64 children! Show performances for members on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22 and 23. Theatre camp pre-registration required by August 10th. Sponsoring adult members should make campsite and/or cabin reservations and register their children for the theatre camp ASAP by calling Ru Wicar at (804)695-9645. (Adult volunteer pianist also needed for the production. Please call if interested.)
August 22-24 - Back-To-School Blues
Kids, we share your pain. Let’s make it a weekend to remember, before school takes over your lives again for another 9 months. Children, bring your new school clothing to model. Other activities to be announced.
August 29– Sept. 1 - Labor Day Celebration
It’s the last fling of summer, and our party starts poolside on Friday with the island tunes of Jimmy Buffet drifting over the water. If horseshoes is your thing, play in the last tournament of the year and join your fellow campers and DJ, at the Dance. Sunday night, more entertainment is provided with a Dance at Dark. We have a rare treat for man’s most loyal and deserving friends – our dogs. Before we close the pool for the year, dogs accompanied by their owners are permitted to swim and play in the Family Pool. The Adult Pool will be open to all ages for those who do not wish to share the water with canines!
